These specialised companies develop and produce high-precision current transformers that safely and accurately measure high current values and convert them into standard low-current signals for use in protective devices, measuring instruments and monitoring systems. By adopting advanced material science and precision manufacturing processes, these manufacturers ensure the stability and reliability of current transformers in a variety of complex environments, providing solid technical support for the stable operation of power systems.
Composite capacitive current transformers represent a significant advancement in electrical measurement technology. These innovative devices utilize a combination of advanced materials and capacitive sensing principles to accurately measure high currents in power systems. By integrating composite materials that offer excellent insulation properties and mechanical strength, these transformers are designed to withstand harsh operating conditions while maintaining high levels of accuracy and reliability.
Bushing current transformer working principle
Bushing current transformer is a type of current transformer specifically designed to measure the current flowing through high-voltage bushings, which are insulating structures used to guide electrical conductors through grounded barriers such as transformer tanks or switchgear.
The current transformer operates on the same basic electromagnetic principle as any current transformer, which is based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. Here’s how it works:
1.Primary Conductor (High Voltage Bushing): The bushing itself serves as the primary conductor through which the high voltage current flows. In a typical CT, the primary winding is an actual coil, but in a BCT, the primary is just the high-voltage bushing conducting the current through the transformer or switchgear.
2.Magnetic Field Creation: When current flows through the bushing (the primary conductor), it generates a magnetic field around the bushing in accordance with Ampere’s law. This magnetic field fluctuates as the current in the bushing changes.
3.Secondary Winding: The BCT has a secondary winding (usually wound around the bushing or inside its core), which is linked to the primary conductor’s magnetic field. The number of turns in the secondary winding is much higher compared to a conventional CT’s primary winding.
4.Induced Current: According to Faraday’s Law, the changing magnetic field around the bushing induces a proportional current in the secondary winding. This induced current is proportional to the primary current but reduced in magnitude by the turns ratio of the transformer.
Advantages of bushing current transformer (BCT)
- Space-Saving Design:
BCTs are integrated into the high voltage wall bushings, eliminating the need for separate external current transformers, thus saving space in switchgear and transformer installations.
- Reduced Installation Complexity:
By embedding the CT within the bushing, BCTs simplify the installation process, reducing wiring and mounting complexity.
- Enhanced Safety:
BCTs reduce the number of exposed high-voltage connections since they are housed within the bushing, improving safety in high-voltage installations.
Overall, composite capacitive current transformers represent a step forward in the field of electrical measurement, offering enhanced performance, durability, and versatility to meet the evolving needs of modern power systems.
